Mormon 1–6

Overview

As Mormon watched the wickedness of his people, he taught about who will judge us and how we will be judged in the Final Judgment. Speaking of the people around him, he said, “I had led them … and had loved them … with all my heart” (Mormon 3:12). Yet he worried about and mourned for his people as they moved toward destruction because they refused to turn to God for help. Ultimately, the Nephite nation was destroyed by the Lamanites.

Prepare to Teach

The following information provides teachers with ideas of what may need to be prepared in advance for each lesson.

Mormon 1–2

Lesson purpose: This lesson can help students understand from Mormon’s example how to follow Christ regardless of what others choose to do.

  • Student preparation: Invite students to come prepared to share experiences about when they chose to be different from others in order to follow Jesus Christ and why it was worth it.

  • Images to display: An image of something that is clearly different from the things around it; an image of Mormon working on the gold plates

  • Videoconference teaching suggestion: Consider placing students in breakout rooms for a few minutes to list questions they have about the Final Judgment. Bring them back together, and use the whiteboard feature to allow them to write or type their questions. Invite students to screenshot all of the questions, and then display the list of resources where they can find answers. Give them time to find answers using the resources provided or any other divinely appointed sources they are aware of.
