JustServe Brings Great Blessings to Missionaries, Communities, and the Mission

Missionaries

  • Engage in meaningful activities during less-productive daytime hours.

  • Develop valuable social skills as they interact with others.

  • Gain self-confidence and increased self-esteem and experience a sense of accomplishment as they learn to use their time wisely.

  • Will likely develop good emotional health and experience less anxiety, depression, and homesickness.

  • Develop a strong work ethic.

Communities

  • Community members and less-active Church members have positive interactions with missionaries that they might not otherwise have.

  • Community members come to view missionaries favorably and cultivate meaningful relationships as they serve shoulder-to-shoulder with missionaries.

  • Community members and missionaries develop greater understanding and appreciation for one another’s faith and beliefs.

  • Community members and organizations can develop a clearer understanding of the mission and role of the Church.

The Mission

  • Missions experience a strong sense of oneness and unity, and missionary morale increases.

And Beyond

  • Missionaries return home having developed strong habits of giving selfless service and proceed to bless their own communities.

Implementing JustServe in the Mission

The Community Service Guidebook outlines the following duties for mission presidents:

Call JustServe Specialists

Call an individual or senior couple as mission JustServe specialists who will coordinate with the coordinating council director of public affairs or JustServe specialists to identify appropriate service opportunities for missionaries, lifting the burden from the mission president.

Implementation:

  • Mission specialists help zone and district leaders identify appropriate service projects for missionaries.

  • See the Community Service Guidebook, pages 7–8.

Train Missionaries

Teach missionaries service etiquette and safety guidelines.

Implementation:

  • Mission specialists can assist with the training of service etiquette and safety guidelines.

  • Mission specialists should review and understand the projects for which missionaries are volunteering.

Encourage Service

Mission presidents give permission for missionaries to serve at projects close to their assigned area that have been approved or found on JustServe.org.

Implementation:

  • Mission specialists may provide transportation to facilitate missionary service by district. They may also serve alongside the missionaries in selected projects.

Track Service Hours

Track the missionaries’ hours of community service each week.

Implementation:

  • Mission specialists track community service hours and report them to the mission presidency and the coordinating council JustServe specialist.

  • Missions successfully using JustServe average between 5 and 10 hours of service per week, per missionary.

  • See the Community Service Guidebook, pages 7–8.
