Two Donnas: Faith in Every Footstep

Sister Donna Hargreaves of the Chorley 3rd Ward is an inspiration to everyone who knows her. Though she is living with motor neurone disease (MND)—a condition that damages the motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord, affecting how muscles work—her faith, courage and positive attitude shine brightly.

Her close friend, Sister Donna Robinson, has drawn immense strength from her example. When she came across a social media post appealing for support for the MND Association’s March fundraising challenge, she immediately thought of her friend and felt prompted to take part.

At the time Donna Robinson had been advised to take some time out to focus on her own health and wellbeing. The challenge—to move for 30 minutes a day throughout March—offered not only a chance to support a cause close to her heart, but also an opportunity to be out in the fresh air and reconnect with people.

Her initial fundraising target was £150. To keep Donna Hargreaves involved and uplifted throughout the challenge, the two Donnas came up with a creative and meaningful approach: Donna Robinson would walk daily, visiting friends and inviting them to sponsor her. She took photos of each supporter and sent them to Donna Hargreaves, keeping her updated and connected with the effort every single day.

The response was overwhelming. Support came not only from local friends, family and neighbours, but also from well-wishers overseas. Thanks to the power of Facebook, the original goal was far surpassed—with the final total reaching an incredible £1,030.

Donna Hargreaves was deeply touched by the photographs, the daily updates and the love behind every message and donation. For Donna Robinson, the experience was equally moving. She was humbled to be awarded a medal by the MND Association for her efforts—an honour she shares with everyone who participated, donated and cheered her on.

This shared journey united many people in kindness and purpose. More than just a fundraiser, it became a testimony to friendship, faith and the power of small daily efforts inspired by love.
