Latter-day Saint Charities Partners with ADRA and Save the Children Fiji to Help Families Hit Hard by Pandemic

Newsroom

Latter-day Saint Charities recently donated funds to Save the Children Fiji and the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) to enable the charities to bring more food to communities in need.

ADRA is a charity sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and Save the Children Fiji is an organisation that focuses on helping improve the lives of children.

Both donations from Latter-day Saint Charities went to support and strengthen existing efforts by the two agencies in Fiji.

“There are families who will need support for several more months before they are able to recover from the COVID crisis,” said Shairana Ali, Save the Children Fiji’s chief executive officer. “Therefore, the support from Latter-day Saint Charities is vital.”

In the October 2021 distribution of food kits, some were taken into the country’s interior, across rugged terrain and rivers to help women who could not get their produce to market because of closed borders due to the pandemic.

“There are many communities and families in need at this time, so we are working with our friends in other churches and charities to bring food to more people,” said Elder Paul Whippy, Area Seventy.

“Jesus Christ taught that we must help those in need, and this is how He lived. As followers of Christ, we are committed to alleviating suffering and helping individuals and families bounce back from the difficulties they are facing.”

Latter-day Saint Charities is working with both groups to identify ways to help meet longer term needs including food production initiatives.
