A Christmas Message from the First Presidency to the Children of the World

At this Christmas season we extend our greetings to all children of the world. How we love you! How our Heavenly Father and Jesus love you!

It was Jesus who said to His disciples, “[Allow] the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

“And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them” (Mark 10:14, 16).

It causes us sorrow to know that even at this happy time of the year, some children are sick or sad or in pain. Some of you may feel frightened or all alone. You need to know that even when it seems that no one else cares, your Heavenly Father does. He will always love you.

The book of Third Nephi in the Book of Mormon tells about the visit of Jesus to the American continent after His resurrection. It says, “He took their little children, one by one, and blessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them.

“And he spake unto the multitude, and said unto them: Behold your little ones.

“And … they saw the heavens open, and they saw angels descending out of heaven … ; and they came down and encircled those little ones about … ; and the angels did minister unto them” (3 Ne. 17:21, 23–24).

Jesus loves you just as He loved those children. He is aware of you and desires to comfort and bless you. It was He who said with great love and tenderness, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: … Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).

The love of our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ continues today and has been manifested to the world through the restoration of the gospel in these latter days. We pray that each of you may feel and enjoy this love not only during this joyous season of the year, but in all the years ahead.
