Crossing the Sea
The Lord told Lehi to take his family into the ship they had built. They loaded it with seeds to plant in the promised land and with fruits, meat, and honey to eat. 1 Ne. 18:5–6
Strong winds blew the ship toward the promised land. 1 Ne. 18:8
Laman, Lemuel, and some of the others began to act wickedly. When Nephi told them to stop, they were angry. They tied Nephi up with ropes. 1 Ne. 18:9–11
Because of their wickedness, the Liahona stopped working. They did not know which way to steer the ship. A terrible storm blew them backward for three days. 1 Ne. 18:12–13
Lehi asked Laman and Lemuel to untie Nephi, but they would not listen. Lehi and Sariah were so upset that they became ill. 1 Ne. 18:17
Nephi’s wife and children cried. They begged Laman and Lemuel to untie Nephi, but they would not. 1 Ne. 18:19
On the fourth day, the storm grew worse. The ship was almost sinking. 1 Ne. 18:14–15
Laman and Lemuel knew that God had sent the storm. They were afraid that they would drown. 1 Ne. 18:15
Finally, Laman and Lemuel repented and untied Nephi. Nephi had not complained, even though his wrists and ankles were swollen and sore from the ropes. 1 Ne. 18:15
After being untied, Nephi took the Liahona, and it worked again. Nephi prayed, and the wind stopped blowing and the sea became calm. 1 Ne. 18:21
Nephi steered the ship, and it again sailed toward the promised land. 1 Ne. 18:22
