Heber C. Kimball

Heber C. Kimball was born in Sheldon, Vermont. He married Vilate Murray in 1822. In 1832 he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and ordained an elder. In 1833 he moved to Kirtland, Ohio, and in 1834 he participated in the Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri. He was ordained a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1835.
Between 1836 and 1843, he served three missions to the eastern United States. He also presided over the first mission to Great Britain in 1837–38 and returned there as a missionary in 1839–41. He helped supervise the removal of the Latter-day Saints from Missouri in 1838–39. After leaving Missouri, he eventually moved to Commerce, Illinois, which was later renamed Nauvoo.
In Nauvoo, Kimball worked on the Nauvoo Temple and served in the Council of Fifty. In 1846–47 Kimball migrated to what became Utah Territory. He was sustained as First Counselor to Brigham Young in the First Presidency in December 1847.
