Canoeing Miracles

During a high-adventure trip with our ward’s young men, we went canoeing. Luke and Clive were in a canoe together, and their canoe ended up capsizing. Thankfully, they were OK, but Clive had to leave his gear behind in the water.

The leaders were trying to recover Clive’s things, but the canoe was wedged underwater and wouldn’t budge. Everyone was trying to figure it out, but nothing seemed to be working.

I went over to my bishop and asked him if we could say a prayer. He asked if I wanted to say it. I prayed, “Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I ask You to give us the strength we need to get this canoe unstuck. We need Your help.”

After we prayed, the bishop said, “All right, let’s figure this out.” He had an idea to untie the strap from a life vest and use it to try to reach Clive’s gear. Then I remembered—I had a rope in my bag. When I had packed, I had a strong feeling that I needed to bring it.

They used the rope to tie around Clive’s gear and successfully pulled it out of the water. Then the canoe suddenly came loose!

To me, that was a miracle. It was a prayer answered by Heavenly Father. It reminded me that He really does hear us when we pray, and that He loves us so much.

I thought to myself, “That was amazing. That was the coolest miracle I’ve ever seen!” It’s something I’ll always remember.
