Come, Follow Me Activities

For home evening, scripture study, or just for fun!

Nothing Is Impossible!

Image
Hand with the middle finger bent down

For Matthew 1; Luke 1

Story: Elisabeth and Zacharias wanted to have a baby, but Elisabeth was too old. One day, an angel told Zacharias that they would have a son! Their son was John the Baptist. Elisabeth and Zacharias learned that with God, nothing is impossible. (See Luke 1:11–14, 37.)

Song: “A Child’s Prayer” (Children’s Songbook,12–13)

Activity: Try this “impossible” task! First, bend your middle finger under. Then put your hand down on a table, palm down. Now try to lift your ring finger. Then ask someone else to lift it for you. How has Heavenly Father helped you do something that did not seem possible?

A Nativity Story

For Matthew 2; Luke 2

Story: Jesus Christ was born in a stable in the city of Bethlehem. Shepherds, angels, and Wise Men came to see Him. You can read more about the Wise Men on page 46.

Song: “Jesus Once Was a Little Child” (Children’s Songbook, 55)

Activity: Take turns telling a story about the birth of a family member. You could talk about where they were born, when they were born, who their parents are, or other things you know about their birth.

The True Light

For John 1

Story: Jesus Christ is sometimes called the “true Light” (John 1:9). The scriptures teach that we should keep His commandments and follow Him. Then we will have “power to become the sons [and daughters] of God” (John 1:12).

Song: “Jesus Is My True Light” (page 23)

Activity: Draw a picture of a goal you have. Have someone hide your picture somewhere in the room and turn off the lights. Now get a small light and shine it around the room. Can you find your picture now? Talk about how Jesus Christ can help you reach your goals.

The Covenant Path

For Matthew 3; Mark 1; Luke 3

Story: Jesus Christ went to John the Baptist to be baptized so He could “fulfil all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15). Jesus was baptized to show an example of obeying Heavenly Father. We can follow Jesus by being baptized too!

Song: “Come, Follow Me” (Hymns, no. 116)

Activity: Go to page 9 to learn about the covenant path. Then do the activity. On this page each month, you will learn about a blessing for you as you follow the path back to Heavenly Father!
