Giant Sandwich

Eric had five friends—George, Mary, Stuart, Ellen, and Mike—whom he invited to his house for lunch. He had a large loaf of bread to make a hoagie sandwich, and he asked each friend to bring one of the following to put on the sandwich: cheese, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and turkey. From the five clues given, can you discover what each friend brought for the sandwich?

To help you solve the puzzle: when you know someone didn’t bring an item, place an X in the box. If you learn what someone did bring, put a × in the box. If you have a × in a box, you know that all the other boxes on that same line, both horizontally and vertically, should have an X in them. Keep going over the clues until you solve the puzzle.

Clues:

  1. Mary and Mike did not bring tomatoes.

  2. The lettuce was not brought by a boy.

  3. The turkey was not brought by a girl.

  4. Ellen brought the pickles.

  5. George did not bring turkey or tomatoes.
