Worm Farm

To make a worm farm, you will need: a clean glass jar, damp soil, damp sand, worms, fresh leaves, cheesecloth, a rubber band, black paper, and tape.

  1. Fill 1/3 of the jar with damp soil.

  2. Add a slightly smaller layer of damp sand.

  3. Fill the jar with damp soil up to 2″ (5 cm) below the top.

  4. Add worms and fresh leaves.

  5. Cover the top of the jar with the cheesecloth and hold it in place with the rubber band.

  6. Wrap the black paper around the jar; secure it with tape.

  7. After a few days, remove the black paper. What have the worms done to the sand and soil?

  8. To keep the worms, continue to add fresh leaves and make sure that the soil stays moist.
