Crawly Caterpillar Toy

To make a caterpillar toy, you will need: a knee sock, stuffing, yarn, scissors, felt, glue, a pom-pom, and a pipe cleaner.

  1. Fill the toe of the sock with enough stuffing to make a head (see illustration). Secure the head by wrapping a piece of yarn around its base several times, then slipping the ends of the yarn under the yarn wrapping.

  2. Add more stuffing to make a body section smaller than the head. Wrap another piece of yarn around the base of this section several times, and secure the ends. Continue making sections to the end of the sock. Wrap the end of the sock with yarn to close it.

  3. Cut out the mouth and eyes from felt, then glue them and the pom-pom nose in place.

  4. Carefully poke two small holes in the top of the head (see illustration). Thread the pipe cleaner through the holes until you have two antennae the same length. Bend the tip of each antenna.
