The Quail

“The Quail,” Friend, Aug.–Sept. 1984, inside back cover

The Quail

Down a winding byway,

In a shady dale,

Lives a lovely lady

Whose name is Mrs. Quail.

When her chicks are hungry,

When they start to squawk,

Mrs. Quail calls, “Children,

Let us take a walk.”

Then they all go stepping

Pertly up the lane,

Eating bugs and insects

Till they’re full again.

On their heads are topknots

That waggle as they go.

It looks as if they’re waving

HELLO! HELLO! HELLO!
