“April Snow,” Friend, Apr. 1981, 38
April Snow
When I awoke this morning,
I had a fine surprise.
A cold and newly-whitened earth
Stretched out before my eyes.
The trees looked soft and cottony,
The lawns had lost their green,
And shivery spring birds wondered
At the sudden change of scene.
And where each golden daffodil
Had tossed its pretty head
Now only crystal snowdrops
Stood in my garden bed.
