A Prophecy Come True!

3 Nephi, chapter 1 [3 Ne. 1]

When Nephi, the son of Helaman, departed out of the land of Zarahemla in the New World, he charged his son Nephi with the safekeeping of the plates of brass and all other records and sacred things that had been kept since father Lehi left Jerusalem 600 years before. The younger Nephi was also to continue the records of his fathers.

Then in the “ninety and second year, behold, the prophecies of the prophets began to be fulfilled more fully.”

But in spite of the “greater signs and greater miracles wrought among the people,” there were many unbelievers and faithless ones who persecuted those who were righteous. They set a time when “all those who believed [would] be put to death except the sign [no darkness when the sun went down] should come to pass, which had been given by Samuel the prophet.”

Hearing of the evildoers’ plans against the believers, Nephi “cried mightily unto the Lord, all the day; and behold, the voice of the Lord [Jesus Christ] came unto him, saying:

“Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, … on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfill all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets.

“Behold, I come unto my own, to fulfill all things which I have made known unto the children of men from the foundation of the world, and to do the will, both of the Father and of the Son.”

And it was true as Jesus had declared, for “it came to pass that there was no darkness in all that night, but it was as light as though it was mid-day. And it came to pass that the sun did rise in the morning again, according to its proper order.”

Now the people knew of a surety that the Lord Jesus Christ had been born, to live and teach among men on the earth.

“Yea, all things, every whit, according to the words of the prophets” came true.

“And it came to pass also that a new star did appear [later in the heavens], according to the word.”
