Korean Meal for Two

How to Use Chopsticks

Many Korean people still use chopsticks when eating their daily meals. Though they occasionally use a spoon, the majority of the meal is eaten with chopsticks.

You can learn to use these utensils by following three steps (two pencils can be used for practice).

1. Place a chopstick across the hand with one end tucked behind the thumb. Use the opposite hand to position it correctly.

2. Place the other chopstick above the first one. It should rest on the index finger, be tucked behind the tip of the thumb, and finally rest on the second finger.

3. Bring the index finger up to touch the chopstick at the tip of the thumb, then bring the tips of the chopsticks together. Be sure that the other chopstick is positioned at the base of the thumb on the inside.

After a little practice you can have fun eating many foods with chopsticks.
