Latter-day Temples Quiz

The word temple is derived from the Latin word templum and means the house of the Lord. Latter-day Saints have always emphasized the building of temples for doing the Lord’s work. Clues to the names of some of these temples are found in the following paragraphs. Write the names of the temples in the blank spaces.

1. This temple was built by the pioneers and their descendants. Three other temples were completed before the dedication of the __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Temple in 1893.

2. President Joseph F. Smith went to these islands when he was fifteen years old to do missionary work. He returned there in 1915 as President of the Church to dedicate a site for the __ __ __ __ __ __ Temple.

3. In 1887 a pioneer group from Salt Lake City traveled north to build a new settlement. They named their town Cardston after Charles Ora Card, the leader of their group. In 1913 a temple site was dedicated there and President Heber J. Grant dedicated the __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Temple in 1923.

4. Latter-day Saint pioneers moved to the western part of the United States and many Lamanite and Spanish-speaking members of the Church settled in the area where this temple is located. In 1927 President Heber J. Grant dedicated the __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Temple to serve these people.

5. This temple was the first one built on the European continent. So many members of the Church throughout Europe came to the dedication that two sessions were held daily from September 11, 1955, to September 15. The dedicatory prayer for the __ __ __ __ __ Temple was given at each session by President David O. McKay.

6. Polynesian Saints from many islands traveled long distances across the Pacific Ocean to go to the Hawaii Temple. In 1954 it was announced that another temple was to be built in the South Pacific. President McKay dedicated the __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __Temple in 1958.

7. After attending the Swiss Temple dedication in 1955, President McKay returned to Newchapel to officiate at the groundbreaking services for another temple. The __ __ __ __ __ __ Temple was dedicated three years later.

8. Two temples have recently been dedicated in areas near Salt Lake City. The one to the north is the __ __ __ __ __ Temple and the one to the south is the __ __ __ __ __ Temple.

9. The most recently completed Latter-day Saint temple is the __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Temple in the eastern part of the United States.
