New Peru Missionary Training Center

“This great building that we will dedicate tonight is a supplement to the home,” said Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles at the dedication of a three-story, 150-person missionary training center in Lima, Peru, on 3 September. “Every one of our homes is a missionary training center. We will put on the finishing touches here.”

The members of the South America West Area Presidency—Elders Richard J. Maynes and Ned B. Roueché of the Seventy and Elder Juan Uceda, an Area Authority Seventy—attended the dedication, as did 6 other Area Authority Seventies serving in the South America West Area, the presidents of all 33 Lima stakes, and more than 300 Lima-area bishops. Numerous community leaders and nearby residents were also in attendance.

Describing the motives of missionary work, Elder Maynes said: “Through His ministry and ultimate sacrifice, Jesus Christ clearly taught us that before thinking of Himself, He was first dedicated to the success and happiness of all His brothers and sisters. This is the reason why the Church is so dedicated to missionary work.”

The new MTC building replaces an adapted, expanded house that had become too small.

Missionaries studying in the new building will come mainly from Peru and Bolivia.

Peru’s missionary training center can accommodate 150 missionaries at a time.
