Two Temples Begun

Formal groundbreaking services were conducted Saturday, April 23, for the Church’s new temple in Freiberg, German Democratic Republic. Elder Thomas S. Monson, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve, presided at the services, which signaled the formal start of construction.

Ground was also broken earlier in the week for a new temple in Argentina. Elder Bruce R. McConkie of the Quorum of the Twelve presided at groundbreaking services in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, April 20.

Plans to build the Argentina Temple were announced by President Spencer W. Kimball in 1980. President Kimball’s announcement of plans for the Freiberg Temple came in October of last year.
