Preparing and Teaching Life Preparation Lessons: Teaching a Lesson

S&I Annual Training Broadcast 2025

Sister Katrina Hunt: All right. Today, you guys, I want to have you just discuss with your tables what’s an emotionally challenging situation that teenagers go through? All right, let’s talk with each other for a minute.

CLASS: (Chatter)

Sister Hunt: In your study journal right now, I want you to write down an emotionally challenging situation that you are currently going through.

My hope for you today is that as you leave, that you will feel more confidence that the Savior can help you, and will help you through your challenges that you’re currently going through, through any challenges that are coming up.

All right. So to start off today, who is our best example in everything?

CLASS: Jesus Christ.

Sister Hunt: Nice. I love it. So will all of you turn to Isaiah chapter 53? And will you go to verses 3 through 5? Will you just read that silently to yourself? And on this sticky note, will you just write down a phrase that you liked that stood out to you? On the back there is a quote from Elder Soares. Will you just underline something that sticks out to you again, just like you did in the scriptures?

With your table, will you think about this scripture, Isaiah 53:3–5, and Elder Soares’s quote? And will you come up with a truth that we can pull out of both of these divinely appointed sources? Go ahead.

CLASS: (Chatter)

Sister Hunt: All right. Is there a table that wants to share with us? What truth did you find?

Opia.

Opia: The truth I found was in the quote. It says, “The Savior offers us relief and comfort.” And something I like about that is that He knows what we’re going through, and He’s always there for us. And sometimes we think we’re all alone, but if we just reach out to Him, He’ll always answer to us.

Sister Hunt: Love that. The Savior knows what we are going through.

And what can He do about it?

Opia: He can offer us someone to be there for us, someone we know we can always go to, giving us peace of mind.

Sister Hunt: I love that. And at the very beginning, you also mentioned, like, comfort us, right? He can give us peace and comfort.

You guys, I know that this truth that you pulled out of the scriptures and from Elder Soares, this is true. In my own life, there’s been times when, and nobody else could possibly know how I felt. But I know that the Savior did, and that He gave me peace and comfort. And so we’re going to try this just by visualizing.

All right. So all of you just close your eyes. And will all of you just think about the emotionally challenging situation that you wrote down in your study journal? And I’m just going to ask you a few questions. And I want you just to be thinking about it. Afterwards, after a few minutes, I’ll have you open your eyes, and I’ll have you write down some thoughts and feelings. Okay?

First question: If the Savior were with you, what do you think the Savior would be doing? What do you think the Savior would be doing while you are going through your emotionally challenging situation? What might you be thinking and feeling?

Another question: What might He say to you? What might He ask you to do?

Next thing: What might His presence, love, and support help you manage and overcome in your emotional stress?

Will you just open your eyes and, in your study journal, will you write down any thoughts and feelings that you had?
