The Lord has always commanded people to humble themselves before Him and has often warned them when they aren’t humble enough (see Doctrine and Covenants 67:10).

Unfortunately, some people may feel that humbling themselves means putting themselves down. But that’s not true.

“Humility does not mean convincing ourselves that we are worthless, meaningless, or of little value. … We don’t discover humility by thinking less of ourselves; we discover humility by thinking less about ourselves. It comes as we go about our work with an attitude of serving God and our fellowman.”1

When we are truly humble, we will begin to develop a deep reverence and love for Heavenly Father, recognizing that He is all-powerful, all-wise, and all-loving. This should make us thankful for all of our gifts and blessings, including the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. Then we will want to serve God and others. As we do this, the Holy Ghost will be with us, and we will be happier and feel better about ourselves too.
