Seminaries and Institutes Missionary Online Instructor

The primary role of the online institute service missionary is to help students achieve the Objective of Seminaries and Institutes through the online learning experience. Online teachers accomplish this by facilitating an online course and ministering to students. The primary tools used for online institute are Canvas and the area’s preferred videoconferencing software, which gives a service missionary the ability to serve from home (remotely).

Responsibilities

  • Apply principles of Christlike teaching in the learning experience as found in Teaching in the Savior’s Way; learning experiences should be Christ-centered, scripture-based, learner-focused, and Spirit-directed.
  • Facilitate the online Canvas course experience, following the “Guidelines for Successful Online Teaching.”
  • Participate in regular inservice training meetings.
  • Follow up on Seminaries and Institutes supervisor and student communications promptly.
  • Prayerfully plan and deliver the learning experience for the weekly remote gathering.
  • Prepare for the learning experience by diligently studying the scriptures, teachings of modern prophets, and the lesson materials.
  • Explain, share, and testify of gospel doctrines and principles.
  • Support learners to become successful in the online learning environment by regularly communicating with students, establishing course expectations, maintaining an active presence in the course, and so forth.
  • Foster an environment where learners feel safe and supported and where their contributions are valued.
  • Track student attendance and course completion.

Qualifications

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education or experience.
  • Be able to serve for a period of 12 to 24 months, or longer if extensions are granted.
  • Have access to a computer with a webcam and stable internet service.
  • Possess an outgoing, friendly, and pleasant demeanor and enjoy working with students.
  • Be physically and emotionally capable of interacting with students.
  • Be able to remain calm and communicative during stressful situations, with special consideration for instances when students may be dealing with physical, mental, or emotional challenges.
  • Be able to follow direction and handle changes in policy and processes.
  • Be comfortable using computers and computer applications, including email and the internet, and have a willingness to learn new computer programs and processes.
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Hold a current temple recommend.
