Seminaries and Institutes Missionary Instructor

The responsibility of seminary and institute missionary instructors is to help youth and young adults understand and rely on the teachings and Atonement of Jesus Christ, qualify for the blessings of the temple, and prepare themselves, their families, and others for eternal life with their Father in Heaven. This is accomplished working with Seminaries and Institutes administrators by teaching the assigned course(s), recruiting potential students, enrolling students, encouraging course completion, and providing appropriate support to program attendees. These service missionaries will help the Church fulfill its divinely appointed responsibility to help members live the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Responsibilities

  • Apply principles of Christlike teaching in the learning experience as found in Teaching in the Savior’s Way; learning experiences should be Christ-centered, scripture-based, learner-focused, and Spirit-directed.
  • Work with the Seminaries and Institutes administrator to identify potential students that are able to attend the program.
  • Work with priesthood leaders to contact and invite youth to participate in the S&I program.
  • Provide course instruction and present lesson material to students.
  • Routinely prepare lesson plans for scheduled classes, be spiritually prepared, and be on time.
  • Serve and bless the lives of students through fellowship and mentoring.
  • Help plan and carry out program activities.
  • Track student attendance and course completion.

Qualifications

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education or experience.
  • Be able to serve for a period of 12 to 24 months.
  • Possess an outgoing, friendly, and pleasant demeanor and enjoy working with students.
  • Have a strong desire to instruct and teach youth or young adults about gospel principles.
  • Be physically and emotionally capable of interacting with students.
  • Be able to remain calm and communicative during stressful situations, with special consideration for instances when students may be dealing with physical, mental, or emotional challenges.
  • Be able to follow direction and handle changes in policy and processes.
  • Possess a working knowledge of computers, including email and internet, and have a willingness to learn new computer programs and processes.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Hold a current temple recommend.
