Remember Him and #LightTheWorld

Jesus Christ

As December approaches, our hearts and minds turn toward the Savior, His life, and His birth. This year, we have been encouraged to continue to #LightTheWorld with service. Join thousands of people around the world by spreading the Light of Christ through different acts of service each week.

Worldwide Day of Service

First, on December 1, 2018, you and your students are invited to participate in the Worldwide Day of Service. You and your students can serve in many ways (visit JustServe.org for local ideas). If possible, you can serve together as a class, set up a community event, or serve in a way that works best for you and your students.

Light the World

One way to serve on a global scale is through missionary service. Lesson 71 in the Doctrine and Covenants and Church History manual teaches that the gospel will fill the whole world. As you teach lesson 71, encourage your students to see how they can be missionaries right now. By serving those around the world, we can be missionaries and spread Christ’s light.

Light Your Community

You can #LightYourCommunity by serving those around you. A great example of community service is the service bishops provide. Doctrine and Covenants 72 discusses the duties of a bishop who takes care of the spiritual and temporal needs of his ward (see lesson 76). As we strive to serve those around us temporally and spiritually, we spread the Light of Christ throughout our community.

Light Your Family

There are many ways that we can serve our family and show them that we care about them. One way to show our love is through forgiveness. In lesson 69, we learn that the Lord commands us to forgive all people, even when it is difficult. In Doctrine and Covenants 64:9–10 we learn that we are commanded to forgive one another:

“Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.

“I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.”

The Lord is compassionate, forgiving, and merciful. As we strive to emulate these qualities, we can spread the Light of Christ to those around us, including our families.

Light Your Faith

The final week will start with a special Christmas worship service that you are invited to attend and invite someone to attend with you. As you and your students strive to #LightYourFaith and grow closer to Christ, remind them of lesson 78, where we learn that prayerfully studying prepares us for understanding. Lesson 72 also describes how we can grow closer to God by speaking to Him, listening to Him, and serving Him through service to others.
