Stake Seminary and Institute Supervisor Responsibilities
A stake seminary and institute supervisor’s primary responsibility is to assist priesthood leaders and the S&I representative in helping stake teachers and students fulfill the Objective of Seminaries and Institutes of Religion. Stake supervisor’s specific responsibilities vary based on the needs of the local program and under the direction of stake leadership and the S&I representative. Possible areas of responsibility may include:
Assist with Establishing Seminary and Institute Programs and Identifying Stake Teachers
- Help identify seminary and institute program needs for the upcoming year. (Click here for Seminary Class Options).
- Counsel with stake leadership and the S&I representative about potential stake seminary and institute teachers. (See General Handbook of Instructions 15.1.1)
New Stake Teacher Support
- Assure that:
- New stake teacher contact information is communicated to the S&I representative.
- S&I representative contact information is communicated to the new stake teacher.
- Assist the S&I representative in scheduling an orientation with the new teacher.
- Encourage the stake teacher to review curriculum training for the current curriculum as invited by the S&I representative.
Support Enrollment, Attendance, and Completion
- Assist with enrollment efforts.
- Help stake teachers understand attendance and completion requirements.
- Assist stake teachers in encouraging student attendance andcompletion.
- Encourage stake teachers to ensure that attendance and completion records are accurate and up to date.
- Work with the S&I representative and administrative assistant to regularly update stake and ward leaders with information regarding student progress.
- When needed, assist stake teachers in helping students (especially students in their final year) with makeup work required for completion.
Support and Help Build the Capability of Stake Teachers
Training of stake teachers is the responsibility of the S&I representative. Stake supervisors may be called upon to assist in the following ways:
- Inspire stake teachers to strive to implement principles described in Teaching in the Savior’s Way.
- Participate in and encourage stake teachers to engage in all training including:
- Orientation
- Curriculum training
- Regular support and training opportunities (micro-trainings, email communication, etc.).
- Monthly Discussions
- Inservice Meetings
- Help communicate information to stake teachers who missed support or training opportunities.
- In consultation with the S&I representative, visit classes to support stake teachers, observe teaching, and provide feedback. (If feedback is provided, the S&I representative counsels with the supervisor and trains them on how to eIectively observe and provide feedback.)

Assist in Planning and Execution of Graduation Exercises
- Assist the stake leadership in identifying participants.

- Work with S&I representative and administrative assistant to communicate regularly with stake leadership on student progress toward graduation.
Calendaring
- Assist in scheduling and determining agenda items for meetings/communication between stake leadership and the S&I representative.
- See that S&I activities are on the stake calendar. This could include seminary graduation, training broadcasts, inservice meetings, and so forth.
- Reserve facilities as needed.
