Each year, volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints harvest over 300,000 pounds of raisins from the Madera vineyard. These raisins are donated to the poor and needy all over the world.

Madera Vineyard

Bring a friend to the Madera Vineyard and help box raisins to be shipped to support humanitarian efforts around the world. Grapes are picked, dried, and boxed in August and September.

Call (559)-232-9022 to schedule a time to serve.

Overview

From Madera in central California, an 80-acre vineyard owned by the Church hosts thousands of volunteers from the surrounding communities every year. Raisins from this vineyard are used as part of the Church’s humanitarian relief efforts worldwide, and at food banks, soup kitchens, and rescue missions throughout the United States.

Volunteers harvest the grapes and lay them on trays in the sun to become raisins. Many other volunteers come to the vineyard throughout the year to gather the finished raisins and tend the vines, among other tasks.

Service Opportunities

While volunteers are welcome to serve year round, there are typically three main service activities that occur from late August through early October: picking grapes, rolling them, and boxing them to be shipped. Pruning trees typically takes place in December and January.

Most individuals come to serve early Saturday mornings at sunrise to avoid the heat of the day. They are encouraged to wear long-sleeve shirts and long pants and bring sun protection (hats, sunscreen, etc.) and water.
