Indicates the scripture verse referenced by a scriptureRef element.

Values include:
| 1–150 | A verse number. | |
| [numbers in series] | Use commas and hyphens, and omit spaces (for example, verse="1-3,5"). | |
| [number + letter] | A footnote (for example, verse="7b"). | |
| title | A chapter, psalm, or section title (chapter="3" verse="title" refers to the text “Chapter 3”). | |
| intro | A chapter, psalm, or section introduction (book="gen" chapter="3" verse="intro" refers to the summary at the head of Genesis 3). | |
| summary | A section summary. These are found in the Doctrine and Covenants only. In print, the intro comes first and spans two columns. The summary comes second and is in a single column. | |
| head | The title, intro, and summary together. | |
| closing | Notes or signatures found at the end of Pauline epistles, a few D&C sections, and the Articles of Faith. |
