This has really been a dream
come true for a member of the Twelve to be able to spend this
much time in an area.
Workers are making progress on the
soon to be completed Nairobi Kenya Temple of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints.
This is the first house
of the Lord in Kenya.
Having a temple in Nairobi, Kenya, to me it means that the country
will be blessed. The members are looking at the
progress of the construction and are anticipating with great joy the completion and dedication
of the temple here. As the temple is built, efforts are
also underway to build up the Latter-day Saints in Central
and East Africa, where many are considered pioneers. I’ve seen the Church grow from handful
members to today over 15,000 members. We're building temples and
we're building people, and the growth is significant. In February, a special visit by
an Apostle of the Church, Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, joined by his wife, Lesa,
ministered to saints and missionaries in several
African countries. We're so impressed. While in Dar es Salaam, the senior
Church leader stopped by a local hospital where Church donations
are assisting women and children.
This municipality has a good partnership
with that Church. We're doing a small part. You're
doing a very important work. This is built for women who are
expecting and newborn children. One year old. And how many
children do you have? The Church has many humanitarian
projects underway in the region. Our hearts are touched
by what you're doing. Elder Stevenson participated in a news conference held in Nairobi
during his visit. We think of the words of the Lord
Jesus Christ when He said, “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
