The youth of the Church are
a dynamic force for good. With their love for the
Savior and His gospel, as well as a variety of
talents and abilities, young people are valuable
in the work of the Lord.
Inviting young women to minister
with Relief Society sisters is an inspired and effective way
to help young women participate in the work of salvation
and exaltation, and deepen her conversion as
a disciple of Jesus Christ. It's an opportunity
for a young woman to recognize the
needs of others, look for revelation in
responding to those needs, and act on what she receives. Contributing to the work
of salvation and exaltation enhances her spiritual growth. As she interacts with her
Relief Society sisters, she develops nurturing
relationships. Likewise, Relief Society
sisters are richly blessed by genuine
friendships and working alongside the young
women of the Church. A young woman may serve
as a ministering companion to a Relief Society sister
in the year she turns 14, and when the young woman
is willing and able. The Relief Society presidency
counsels with the young woman, her parents, and the
Young Women presidency as they consider a
ministering assignment. In visiting with
each young woman, you can discuss
the blessings that can come through ministering,
and counsel with her to see if she would
be willing to accept this special responsibility. After a young woman has accepted
the invitation to serve, an adult companion can be
chosen through inspiration. With the parents'
confirmed support, an assignment is extended by
the Relief Society presidency. Though a young woman can
serve as a ministering sister, she herself does not have
ministering sisters assigned to her, but is
cared for by those who minister to her family, as
well as her Young Women class presidency and adult leaders. In serving as a
ministering sister, a young woman can
fulfill responsibilities as a covenant daughter
of God, helping her gain a greater understanding
of her divine nature and eternal identity. It will prepare her to
strengthen home and family, make and keep her
sacred covenants, and one day receive the
ordinances and blessings of the holy temple. [MUSIC PLAYING]
