[GUITAR PLAYING] That night my eyes were red.
You laid awake in bed.
And I couldn't see
past my horizon. You could tell the
sun was rising. Now I feel the
sunlight on my face.
Now that I know
what you knew then, How I wish I let you in. How I wish I let you win a fight Every now and again. Now that I know
what you knew then. Now that I know
what you knew then.
[HUMS] Now as I walk in your shoes, It seems like it's deja vu.
I couldn't see past my horizon. You could tell the
sun was rising. Now I feel the
sunlight on my face.
Now that I know
what you knew then, How I wish I let you in.
How I wish I let you win a fight Every now and again. Now that I know
what you knew then.
Now that I know
what you knew then.
Welcome back to
Mormon Channel Studio. I'm your host, Nik
Day, and we just heard "What You Knew
Then" from Alex Melecio. It's a beautiful song, Alex. Thanks, Nik. I appreciate it. So do you want to tell us a
little bit about the song? Sure. Yes. I actually just finished
writing this song this morning with the help of my
wife, and I actually got to collaborate with a couple
of really good friends of mine, David Lindes, Rebecca Lopez. And it's a song that's
dear to my heart, just in a tribute to my
parents, and just remembering what they taught
me and remembering both the good and the bad. And now as a parent, hoping that
my children one day will thank me and my wife for
all the rough spots that we get when we make
them practice their songs or we make them do homework. A lot of times we don't see--we
don't have the end in mind, but our parents do. So it's just a
tribute to parents. Nice, I love that. And you have one more song
for us, is that right? Yes. I'll be performing
"Come, Follow Me" in Spanish, [SPANISH SPEECH],
and my beautiful wife, Melodi, will accompany at the piano. It sounds great. Take it away. Thanks.
