[MUSIC PLAYING] Teach the Doctrine.
Alma was the leader of a
people faced with destruction by ferocious enemies. But his only hope of victory
was to get God's help.
The Word of God is the
doctrine taught by Jesus Christ and by his prophets. Alma knew that words of
doctrine had great power. They can open the
minds of people to see spiritual things not
visible to the natural eye. They can open the heart to
feelings of the love of God and the love for truth.
"If any man will do
his will, he shall know of the doctrine,
whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." Doctrine, in and of itself,
has the inherent power to assist every
teacher to accomplish his or her main goal, to
build faith in Jesus Christ and inspire
Christ-like behavior.
Doctrine is best taught by
using the scriptures and words of the modern-day prophets. Other resources can
be very helpful, provided their main
purpose is to support the doctrine being taught.
Doctrine gains its
power as the Holy Ghost confirms that it is true. We prepare those
we teach as best we can to receive the
quiet promptings of the still, small voice. Truth can prepare its own way. Simply hearing the
words of doctrine can plant the seed of
faith in the heart, and even a tiny seed of
faith in Jesus Christ invites the Spirit.
What can you do to teach
the doctrine clearly and powerfully, so that your
students will understand?
