This is a beautiful
building, Father. It represents skilled artisans. It represents a
heritage of the past. And in one way, Heavenly Father,
we dedicate this building and dedicate our
lives to the past and to the present
and the future: the past because
we came out of it, the present because
we live in it, and the future because our
children will inherit it. Father, we rededicate this
building from the highest spire to the deepest foundation. We ask Thee to let
Thy Spirit be here. We know that those who
have worked on the building have followed the teachings
of a prominent essayist, John Ruskin, a former generation
who said, "When we build, let us think that we build
forever, and let it not be for present use nor
present delight alone, but let it be such work that
our descendants will thank us for it. And let us think as we
lay stone upon stone that these stones shall become
hallowed because our hands have touched them." O Father, this is a
hallowed structure, and we are pleased to
rededicate it to Thee. Grant that only truth may
be taught at this pulpit. Grant, Heavenly Father, that
it may be a place a description of which was given by Solomon
when Thou didst look upon the temple which he had
constructed and didst say, "I have hallowed this house,
which thou hast built, to [place] ... [my] heart and mine eye ... there perpetually."
