Welcome, beloved sisters,
to the 2014 annual training. My name is Linda K. Burton,
and I am the Relief Society general president. And I'm joined by my wonderful
counselors, Sister Carole M. Stephens and Sister
Linda S. Reeves. This training replaces spring
training that in the past was held in the Tabernacle
on Temple Square. We are delighted to extend
the opportunity for training for sisters
throughout the world. We're hoping that you've
had the opportunity to view Part 1 of this training,
the roundtable discussion. We know that you'll be touched
by the personal experiences, the testimonies,
and the love that have been shared by Elder
Holland, Elder Christofferson, Bishop Stevenson, and the
auxiliary general presidents. As you consider the Relief
Society outline in Part 2, think about ways
that you can apply the principles of learning
and teaching in Part 1. When the Prophet Joseph Smith
organized Relief Society, he taught the sisters that
Relief Society was not only to relieve the poor,
but also to save souls. Through visiting
teaching, the Lord has provided us an
opportunity to participate in the vital work of temporal
and spiritual salvation. Part 2 consists
of a brief outline that will assist you
in teaching sisters how to minister
as the Savior did. As visiting teachers
seek inspiration to know the needs of their
sisters and then act, they become instruments
in the hands of the Lord. Sisters, we do love
you and we pray for you that you will be blessed in your
efforts to help your sisters. May we each accept the
Savior's invitation to love one another
as He loves us. In the name of
Jesus Christ, amen. Amen.
