The Chico California Stake does not have a location for treks, but it provides the service of purchasing, maintaining, storing, and renting 40 handcarts that can be taken to a group’s trekking site. These handcarts are stored at, picked up from, and dropped off at Deseret Farms. Chico stake leaders oversee the rental and return of the handcarts.

Vehicles for towing
To haul the 30-foot flatbed trailers that carry the handcarts, each driver must have ALL of the following:
- A truck that is at least three-quarter ton.
- A trailer hitch with a 2 5/16" ball.
- A 7-pole RV-style connector about 1 5/8" in diameter for electric lights.
- A 2-axle electric brake actuator or sending unit.
The water tank trailer can be hauled by a regular pickup.
Each group fills out a Handcart Trek Payment Authorization Form.
Reserving and picking up handcarts
Rental reservations should be made many months in advance by calling Russ Thayne at 1-530-518-8508 or by emailing him at firstname.lastname@example.org. Handcarts are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each group will schedule a pickup time when reserving the handcarts. When leaders come to check out the handcarts, they will receive instructions and review the handcart and trailer safety rules. A Driver Check-Out and Check-In form needs to be filled out when handcarts are picked up and returned.
