Why Gaining an Education is Important

Education provides us with the understanding and skills necessary for self-reliance, enabling us to support ourselves and our families. It also prepares us for greater service within our families, the Church, and our communities. By seeking learning through both study and faith, we gain knowledge that not only benefits us temporally but also spiritually, allowing us to fulfill our divine potential and contribute meaningfully to God’s kingdom.

God wants us to educate our minds, improve our skills, and perfect our abilities so we can be a better influence for good in the world; provide for ourselves, our family, and those in need; and build God’s kingdom (see Doctrine and Covenants 88:78–80).

“I hope that all of you . . . realize that an education is important. So, for those that have that opportunity to do so and will work for that opportunity, I hope that you would get all the education that you can. It will bless your life in remarkable ways and will bless your future families. But you have to have a desire, and you have to keep working at it.”
