Elder Michael Cziesla was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the April 2025 general conference. At the time of his call, he had been serving as ward activity committee chairman for the Darmstadt Ward.
Elder Cziesla has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the Utah Ogden Mission, high councilor, stake president, mission president, and Area Seventy.
Elder Cziesla received a degree in law from the University of Mainz in 2000 (equivalent to a JD). He also obtained a doctor of laws (doctor iuris) degree from the University of Mainz in 2003 (equivalent to a PhD), comparing German and US law as a visiting scholar at BYU. He worked as an attorney, partner, and country managing parter at McDermott Will & Emery.
Michael Cziesla was born in Neumünster, Germany, on July 26, 1972. He married Margret Anne Rauh in 1997. They are the parents of five children.
