Elder José A. Teixeira was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 5, 2008.
Prior to his current assignment as President of the United States Central Area, he served in the Presidency of the Seventy from 2018 to 2025. During that time, he served on the Temple and Family History Executive Council, Area Committee, and Correlation Executive Committee and assisted members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in supervising the Asia, Africa Central, Africa South, North America Southwest, Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, and South America South Areas. Elder Teixeira has also served as President of the Europe Area and the South America South Area.
Before his call as a General Authority Seventy, he served as an Area Seventy in the Europe West Area, a mission president in Brazil, and a stake president in Portugal. He also served as a full-time missionary in the Portugal Lisbon Mission.
Elder Teixeira’s educational and professional background is in finance, auditing, and business management. He served in the Portuguese Air Force and was assigned to the NATO international unit of CINCIBERLANT in Oeiras, Portugal.
José Augusto Teixeira da Silva was born in Vila Real, Portugal, on February 24, 1961. He married Filomena Teles Grilo in June 1984 in the Bern Switzerland Temple. Elder and Sister Teixeira are the parents of three children.
