Jonathan S. Schmitt

Elder Jonathan S. Schmitt was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 2, 2022. He is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Missionary Department. He previously served in the United States Southwest Area Presidency, as an Area Assistant in the Utah Area Presidency, and as an Assistant Executive Director in the Temple Department, Priesthood and Family Department, and Family History Department.

Elder Schmitt has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the California Fresno Mission, bishop, stake president, president of the California San Diego Mission (2014–17), and Area Seventy.

Elder Schmitt received a bachelor of science in agricultural and resource economics and juris doctor from the University of Arizona. Following a clerkship with the Arizona Supreme Court, Elder Schmitt worked as an attorney in Houston, Texas, and later as an administrator at Arizona State University.

Jonathan Stephen Schmitt was born in Mesa, Arizona, on April 16, 1973. He married Alexis Swain Udall in July 1995. They are the parents of four children.
