Eight senior leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday morning in Salt Lake City. These leaders qualify for the vaccine in Utah because they are over the age of 70. Vida pessoal

O élder Oaks é natural de Provo, Utah, e nasceu em 12 de agosto de 1932. Ele e sua primeira esposa, June Dixon Oaks, tiveram seis filhos. Ela faleceu em 21 de julho de 1998. Em 25 de agosto de 2000, ele se casou com Kristen M. McMain no Templo de Salt Lake.

Ele é formado pela Universidade Brigham Young (1954) e pela Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Chicago (1957). Exerceu a advocacia e ensinou direito em Chicago. Foi reitor da Universidade Brigham Young de 1971 a 1980 e juiz na Suprema Corte de Utah de 1980 até sua renúncia em 1984 para aceitar o chamado ao apostolado.

Vida profissional

O élder Oaks foi executivo ou diretor de muitas organizações comerciais, educacionais e de caridade. É o autor ou coautor de muitos livros e artigos sobre assuntos religiosos e jurídicos. Em maio de 2013, recebeu a Medalha Canterbury do Fundo Becket para a Liberdade Religiosa por sua “coragem na defesa da liberdade religiosa”.
