Eight senior leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday morning in Salt Lake City. These leaders qualify for the vaccine in Utah because they are over the age of 70. Vie personnelle

Né le 12 août 1932, frère Oaks est originaire de Provo (Utah, États-Unis). Sa femme, feue June Dixon Oaks, et lui ont eu six enfants. Elle est décédée le 21 juillet 1998. Le 25 août 2000, il a épousé Kristen M. McMain, au temple de Salt Lake City (Utah).

Frère Oaks est diplômé de l’université Brigham Young (1954) et de la faculté de droit de l’université de Chicago (1957). Il a pratiqué et enseigné le droit à Chicago. Il a été président de l’université Brigham Young de 1971 à 1980 et juge à la cour suprême d’Utah de 1980 jusqu’à sa démission en 1984 pour accepter l’appel d’apôtre.

Vie professionnelle

Il a été officier ou membre de conseils d’administration dans de nombreuses organisations financières, éducatives et caritatives. Il est l’auteur ou le coauteur de nombreux livres et articles sur des sujets religieux ou juridiques. En mai 2013, le Fonds Becket pour la liberté religieuse lui a décerné la médaille de Canterbury pour son « courage dans la défense de la liberté religieuse ».
