Which do you like best?

Some places are pretty cold right now, so we thought we’d share some simple recipes for warm Christmas drinks. You could cuddle up with a cup while watching the “Promise of Christmas” broadcast from Temple Square, or another holiday video!

Vanilla Steamer

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Directions:

  1. Heat 4 cups milk and 1/4 cup sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat until steaming.
  2. Stir in 1 tablespoon vanilla extract.
  3. Whisk until frothy and serve.

Orange Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups orange juice
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • ¼ cup sugar

Directions:

  1. Use a blender to mix orange juice, cocoa powder, and flour.
  2. Empty into a saucepan and whisk over low heat.
  3. Add sugar and stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Serve warm.2

Wassail

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 3 whole allspice
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 stick cinnamon, 1 inch (2.5 cm) long
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 2/3 cup lemon juice

Directions:

  1. Pour sugar into 2 cups boiling water and boil for 5 minutes.
  2. Add spices. Cover and let stand for 1 hour.
  3. Add remaining water and fruit juices. Mix well, then strain out any bulky spices and pulp.
  4. Reheat to boiling. Serve warm.3

Pro Tip

If you don’t have an ingredient, don’t panic! The internet can provide suggestions for substitutions. It can be a fun opportunity to experiment!
