They’re worth listening to!

This message from the Savior, often referred to as the Sermon on the Mount, includes some of the most famous scripture verses in the world. These teachings were revolutionary! For example:

  • Instead of “an eye for an eye” punishment and seeking revenge, the Savior encouraged people to forgive each other.
  • Not only are we supposed to act with integrity, but we’re also supposed to keep our thoughts pure.
  • Rather than defining success in worldly ways, God rewards qualities like meekness and peacemaking.

It was a new way of thinking for people back then, and it continues to shape Christianity today. Can you imagine what it might have been like to be there, listening to the Savior teach?

P.S. Did you know the Savior gave a very similar message in the Americas after He was resurrected? It’s true! You can read it in 3 Nephi 12.
