Life goal: Be like the shepherds!

A thought about Matthew 2 and Luke 2.

There they were, a group of shepherds, watching their flocks like they did every night. Suddenly an angel and heavenly choir appeared!

Talk about a shocker! The shepherds were surprised, to put it mildly. The heavenly beings told the shepherds that the Savior had been born (see Luke 2:9–11).

And what happened as soon as the angels departed? Did the shepherds sit around talking about how cool it was to see angels? Did they form a committee to hold meetings to submit a report to discuss whether or not they should respond to the heavenly message sometime later that year?

No!

“The shepherds said to one another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass” (Luke 2:15). Luke even adds that they “came with haste” (v. 16).

In other words, they immediately followed the revelation they had received. The angel said, “Go do this,” and the shepherds said, “OK, we’ll go do that!” And then—this is the important part—they did it.

How pleased the Lord must have been with those humble shepherds!

The next time the Lord gives us directions, either through the words of Church leaders or personal revelation, let’s decide to be like the shepherds. Instead of dragging our feet, let’s go and do!

Don't Delay

Is there anything you’ve felt prompted to do, but you’ve been reluctant to do it for some reason? Today’s the day to move forward!
