Purpose

Whether you are going someplace new or just getting around your hometown, navigation skills will come in handy. Learning how to find your way around can increase your confidence, help you be aware of your surroundings, and keep you safe. You can learn spiritual principles too!

Goal Ideas

  • Learn how to read a map. Practice by marking routes from your home to familiar locations on a paper map, paying attention to cross streets or landmarks while you are walking or riding in a car, or giving directions to someone who is driving to an unfamiliar place.
  • Learn to use a GPS or maps app. If you are already familiar with using a GPS, learn some of the advanced features. Practice driving, walking, or riding to new locations by following GPS directions. Be sure to ask a parent or guardian for permission.
  • Learn to use a compass. Practice on a hike or walk with an experienced adult who can help you if you lose your way.
  • Learn to navigate by the stars. Become familiar with various constellations and how to use them to find your way. People did it for thousands of years before GPS!
