For Ian and Melissa Puente, family time is always a busy time, thanks to their two sets of twin boys. Julian and Caleb are 7 years old, and Jack and Christian are 5 years old. All together, they make one happy family.
“It’s quite a zoo at times, but we really enjoy it,” says Ian.
The Puentes have learned to channel the energy of their home into family chores and activities that are both fun and productive. One of their favorite activities is pizza making in their backyard. With their giant brick pizza oven, the crew cooks up pies that look as good as they taste.
“Making pizzas works for us because we can all be together in one place. It’s a really simple thing to make and we get to talk and connect,” explains Melissa.
Pizza making allows the boys to use their creativity, which Ian encourages. In the end, it is all about the love.
“The home can very easily become a place that is just full of expectations for children. But I think for kids, it’s also very important to know that they can have fun here, that they can be themselves here,” he says.
My name is Ian, and this is my wife, Melissa. We have four boys.
My name is Jack. My name is Christian. Sometime if he laughs so hard, he burps.
A lot of people are like, "Wait, you have two sets of twins!"
It's quite a zoo at times, but we really enjoy it.
This is our bedroom.
We all share it.
Who's going to be the first one to make their bed? Who can be the second one?
It's pretty crazy. We get a lot of turned heads.
There's just always this energy in our home.
Sometimes it's hard to get everyone to settle down and not be so wild.
One of the things that we do is, we actually have an outdoor pizza oven. And we like to make pizzas there.
Making pizzas works for us because we can all be together in one place. It's a really simple thing to make. And we get to talk and connect. We like to drink it with root beer and just make it really fun.
Pizza is one of my favorite foods, and it's really fun for me.
When we can cut it up together, it takes some of the pressure off of making dinner.
I know a part for the eyelids.
An extra smile? It's a monobrow!
When we are having fun, I feel awesome.
It feels like happiness.
It feels like a squishy, big, fat ball of love.
Like I am being comforted.
Like root beer, like, pshhhh.
The home can very easily become a place that is just full of expectations for children. But I think for kids, it's also very important to know that they can have fun here, that they can be themselves here.
Here it is.
All right, what do you guys think?
Look at our face.
Welcome to Pizza Land!
What do you guys think?
When we do have those moments that are fun and we're enjoying our kids and they're enjoying us, it feels so rewarding.
It's really the highlight of my life.
Yes, we got it.
