Serving the Community - Immunization Awareness

Volunteers help increase vaccine awareness in the Philippines3:49

The Philippines is the 12th most-populated country in the world and is made up of over 7,000 small islands. Providing so many people with vaccinations for deadly diseases like measles seems like an impossible task. That doesn’t stop Gaylene from doing her part in her community. In fact, it motivates her to help as much as she can.

Vaccinations were reaching fewer and fewer children over time, causing measles outbreaks. Something had to be done. Gaylene volunteers with local youth groups to inform communities of the immunization drive.
She also volunteers her professional skills as a nurse at a hospital where the staff is small.

“I want to care for those people who are sick—especially the needy and the poor. Most of the Filipinos don’t have enough money for health services,” she explains.

An estimated 1.5 million children die every year of vaccine-preventable diseases. You can help them get what they need. Visit to find out how.

“It makes me a whole being. It makes become a better person,” Gaylene says. “I know that at the end, it is something you can say that at least you have done something for them. It softens my heart. It really softens my heart.”
