Introducing 12 Steps to Change, an original Mormon Channel video series highlighting the real struggles and triumphs of people who have overcome addiction. Each of the videos focuses on an individual’s experience with one of the 12 steps in the addiction recovery program sponsored by LDS Family Services, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Raw interviews and dramatic reenactments bring the realities of addiction and recovery to life. In their own words, recovering addicts describe the miraculous help they received overcoming addictions to drugs, alcohol, food, sex, and pornography.
In support of National Addiction Recovery Month, we encourage you to join an honest conversation about addiction. Learn more about the struggle and what you can do to support those facing it by watching Step 1 when it is released on our channel September 1.
You live these two lives.
Honestly, I was prepared to lie till I was dead.
I felt that I needed to use as much as I needed to breathe.
If there was a sexual thing that you could pay for, I bought it.
I just knew that I needed my pain to stop.
I don't know how else to explain it.
I guess I jumped.
As an addict, you think that "If I admit defeat, then what's left?" In recovery, that's the first step.
That was the beginning of a turning point for me.
That night as I got on my knees, I didn't even get a word out.
It felt like this poison was draining from my body.
I don't know. I just felt like, "Everything's going to be better now. It's out, so I don't have to keep it a secret anymore."
And it was like the Lord was saying, "If you can do this, I can make you a better man. I can change you."
