When Life Is Hard, Ask This Question

    March 10, 2016

When life seems to throw you a major challenge, do you find yourself asking God, “Why me? Why this?” There is a better question to ask.

Richard G. Scott, an Apostle, passed away in the fall of 2015. His wife, Jeanene, passed away 20 years before that. He never remarried. During those years of longing and loneliness, Elder Scott might have wondered why God let things happen the way they did, but he chose to focus on a different question.

“The Lord took my wife beyond the veil. I love her with all my heart, but I have never complained because I know it was His will. I have never asked why but rather what is it that He wants me to learn from this experience,” said Elder Scott once.

What is it that God wants you to learn from this experience?

“I believe that is a good way to face the unpleasant things in our lives,” he explained, “not complaining but thanking the Lord for the trust He places in us when He gives us the opportunity to overcome difficulties.”

If you are facing a challenge, remember that God loves you, that He believes in your ability to succeed, and that He is always reaching out to help you.

What have you learned from times of struggle in your life? How did you feel God’s love then? Share your thoughts in the comments to lift others who need encouragement.
