“Parenting is kind of like one big experiment: you’ve just got to try things and see how they work out and hope they work out for the best.”
That’s some of the inspiration David Oh shares in a recent episode of Happy Families Extra. He and his wife, Bryn, have discovered that creating a happy family is a learning process.
Luckily, none of us have to figure it out alone. The most important principles of marriage and family have been laid out clearly in “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.” By following its simple, powerful teachings, anyone can create a happy family. It says:
“Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.”
The Oh family loves to spend time together. Some of their favorite wholesome activities include playing laser tag and building new things.
“There’s really a great value to working together as a family to create something,” David says.
What can you do to apply the teachings of the proclamation in your life? How has your family benefited from living some of those teachings already?
