This week we are featuring the Conversations episode with Elder Lance B. Wickman and his wife, Patricia. Elder Wickman is an emeritus member of the Seventy and now serves as general legal counsel for the Church.
This episode is diverse and engaging as the Wickmans discuss growing up in California, gaining their testimonies, serving a mission, attending college at the University of California, Berkeley, falling in love, and life in the army.
While in college, Elder Wickman joined the ROTC and later served five years in the army and completed two tours to Vietnam. Hearing Elder Wickman discuss life as a soldier, and Sister Wickman discuss life as an army wife and mother, is fascinating. That experience taught the couple some valuable lessons about the Lord and also provided them with some unique missionary opportunities.
The Wickmans go on to discuss family life and how they have tried to teach their children gospel truths and stay close in their marriage. They had a sobering experience when they lost their second son at the age of five to a common childhood illness. The couple shares the challenges and the tender mercies that came with that trial.
Toward the end of the episode, both Elder and Sister Wickman share their testimonies of the Savior and of the gospel. We are so grateful for this episode and were inspired by the spirit this couple exudes. We hope you will listen to the entire interview, as well as additional Conversations episodes on Mormon Channel.
